The ongoing transfer saga surrounding Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho and his potential move to Barcelona has perhaps dragged on long enough in the eyes of the Catalan super club, who are reportedly looking at other options in case the Brazilian ultimately decides to stay put.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Barca have constructed a list of four names that could serve as potential replacements for Coutinho, all of whom are incredibly talented players. Whether they are up to the standards of the brilliant Brazilian perhaps remains to be see, but Barcelona provides the perfect environment for promising youngsters to grow.

Two Schalke players, Leon Goretzka and Max Meyer, feature amongst the club’s thoughts, and Goretzka in particular is a player who has caught the eyes of various clubs around Europe. The midfielder has already scored four times in nine Bundesliga games this season and is as versatile as he is immensely talented, even at the tender age of 22.

Another German, Julian Brandt, who currently plies his trade at Bayer Leverkusen, made the shortlist, as did Monaco winger Thomas Lemar. The Frenchman bagged nine goals and 10 assists last season as Monaco stormed to the Ligue 1 title, and it was somewhat of a surprise that he wasn’t part of the mass exodus in the summer.
