Arda Turan Might Not Leave FC Barcelona This Summer

There has been a lot of talk around the potential departure of Arda Turan from FC Barcelona.

The former Galatasaray star has been listed as one of the players who will not count for Ernesto Velarde this next season, but that might not be enough for him to leave the club. The Turkish winger might remain with the Camp Nou outfit in the 2017-18 campaign, as the player’s agent, Ahmed Bulut, said his client is not leaving Barca this summer.

In an interview with local media outlet NT Spor, Bulut said Turan “will stay in Barcelona because he has three more years left in his contract”, and at the same time he declared that the winger “will join the team’s pre-season work in July 12.” These words are the same Bulut has repeated the entire summer, perhaps trying to convince Barcelona to give the Turkish star another chance in the club.

That seems highly unlikely, though. Aside from the fact that Turan is behind Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, and Paco Alcacer in the pecking order, Barcelona could use the extra cash they might receive for Turan. It would allow them to add a little bit of budget to make more moves in the transfer market, as the team needs to fill several holes in the defensive side of the ball.

The numbers back Turan up, though, as the 30-year-old contributed with 13 goals and seven assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this past season.
