According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United has offered Barcelona €40 million for midfielder Sergi Roberto.
United is not alone in showing interest in the Spaniard, as fellow Premier League side Chelsea has inquired about Sergi Roberto, although the London-based club has not made a formal offer.
However, Barcelona has made it clear that Sergi Roberto is not for sale and has rejected the offer from Manchester United.
The Catalans have stated that Sergi Roberto’s wishes are to remain with Barca, but have also said that “there is plenty of time remaining before the transfer window closes and things can still happen.”
Sergi Roberto is under contract with Barca until 2019 and the azulgrana are prioritizing a contract extension for the 25-year-old as manager Ernesto Valverde will most likely place him back at center midfield starting this season.
Since joining Barcelona in 2010, Sergi Roberto has become one of the key components for Barcelona, showing versatility in being able to play multiple positions in the midfield or backline.
Whichever team he chooses, Sergi Roberto will join a loaded squad that will benefit from his great eye on the field and his penchant for setting up teammates for goals.
