One of the more back-and-forth transfer rumours of the past few months has been Philippe Coutinho’s potential move to Catalan super club Barcelona, which has been derailed by Liverpool’s stubbornness regarding a fee.
However, according to the Star, the Reds have finally established a number that they would be willing to accept, and will be hoping that Barca do indeed go ahead and match it.
The Merseyside club believe that their star Brazilian is worth £120m, which would make him the second most expensive player in history. Given that Liverpool reportedly turned down a £100m bid from the La Liga side in the summer, it isn’t at all inconceivable to imagine Barcelona paying it.
After missing the beginning of the season through this drama, Coutinho found his stride immediately once reinstated to the team. Four goals and four assists in his eight Premier League appearances this season confirm that he is indeed a hugely talented player, but with Liverpool playing so well it is little surprise that the midfielder is in great form.
Barcelona meanwhile haven’t been doing too badly themselves, and currently sit at the top of La Liga table, leading second place Valencia by five points. The Blaugrana are the highest scoring team in the league, and the addition of Coutinho would make them an even more fearsome side.
