Catalan super club Barcelona spend a long time courting former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho before they finally purchased the midfielder for £142m in the January transfer window.
French giants PSG meanwhile made their loan deal for Monaco wonder kid Kylian Mbappe permanent, securing themselves the services of one of the most exciting prospects in world football.
It is somewhat surprising therefore that the two heavyweight European teams are reportedly lining up a stunning swap deal that would see Coutinho move to Paris, and Mbappe to Barcelona, according to the Guardian.
The notion of such a move comes because, according to reports, Neymar, PSG’s current superstar, would rather play alongside Coutinho than Mbappe. That is apparently enough to prompt this rumour, but it would certainly be an intriguing prospect.
Mbappe would be an excellent addition to a fairly aged Barca squad, especially as 19-year old forward has registered an impressive 10 goals and eight assists in 19 Ligue 1 games this season. The French international was also a key man in Monaco’s title-winning 2016-17 season.
Coutinho meanwhile has contributed a goal and an assist to the Blaugrana’s title challenge during his five appearances for the club since moving, and there is little doubt of the Brazilian’s talent.
