The lower end of the Premier League can be a great place to develop players that can’t quite make it at clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich. We have already seen Renato Sanches join Swansea in a stunning loan deal, and now Gerard Deulofeu has become a Watford player until the end of the season, according to BBC Sport.
The Hornets had a scintillating start to the season, and they remain the second highest scoring side not in the top six. Unfortunately their form didn’t continue for very long, and previously in demand manager Marco Silva was fired.
Watford do however remain in 10th spot in the Premier League table, and will likely be looking upwards, rather than downwards towards the relegation zone. Javi Gracia’s side are just six points above the drop zone, despite their league position.
Their ambition is matched by yesterday’s loan signing of Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona, and there is reason for optimism. The winger has never quite made it in Catalonia, which explains the myriad of loan moves in his recent past, but there is little doubt of his talent.
The former Everton man has pace, technical ability, and a killer cross. Pairing him up on the opposite side to their star Brazilian winger Richarlison therefore could turn Watford back into the fearsome team from earlier in the season.
