Barcelona defender Aleix Vidal has heavily hinted that he is set for a return to his former club Sevilla, perhaps as early as the January transfer window, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

Since making the switch to Barcelona in 2015 the Spanish fullback has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, only making 33 appearances for the Catalan club across all competitions. This season Vidal has only appeared in half of Barca’s La Liga games, and only three of these were starts.

The Spain international is being heavily linked with a return to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, a place where he impressed despite only spending a season at Sevilla. Vidal was named to the UEFA Europa League Squad of the Season for 2014/15 as the Sevillistas won the competition, with the fullback scoring twice in 11 appearances.

His former side currently sit fifth in La Liga table, nine points behind his current employers Barcelona. With a World Cup coming up next summer Vidal will need to be playing as many minutes as he can if he is to stand any chance of being considered for his national side.

Given that he appeared 31 times in the league for Sevilla during his sole season at the club, all the signs suggest that the move would be a positive one for the player, and the club are reportedly keen to secure a deal.
