Premier League giants Manchester United look set to lose both Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini by the end of this season, so it is little surprise that manager Jose Mourinho is in the market for a talented midfielder.
Gomes became an important member of the Blaugrana’s starting lineup in his first season with the club, having made a €35m switch from Valencia in 2016. In this campaign however his game time has been limited by the arrival of Paulinho, and Gomes has made just eight La Liga appearances.
The Portuguese international is without a goal or an assist in any of those appearances too, though goals have never been a huge part of his game. The two players that United are set to lose – Fellaini and Carrick – are built in a similar mould, so Gomes would be an almost ideal replacement.
The Manchester club have slipped down to third in the Premier League table, now a crazy 14 points behind their City rivals, who also have a game in hand. Gomes might allow them to put up more of a challenge next season.
