It is not often that Catalan super club Barcelona lets a player leave and spends years regretting that decision. That scenario could well be the case with Brazilian sensation Neymar, but it happened four years ago too with Thiago Alcantara.

The Blaugrana allowed the midfielder to make a shock switch to Bayern Munich, where he has flourished as part of an utterly dominant Bundesliga force. Thiago has won four German league titles in four seasons, and is looking to make it five from five in this campaign.

That is not to say that the Spaniard didn’t experience success in Catalonia, indeed he won four Liga titles there too, and the coveted Champions League too in 2011. The move to Bayern was an intriguing one, and Barca have been trying to convince him to return ever since.

That shows no sign of stopping this season, according to German publication Bild, who suggest that the Liga club are readying a fresh bid for the talented midfielder. With Thiago having become one of the foremost players in his position in Europe, it will likely take a monster bid to prise him away.

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has had his say however, stating that “Thiago only extended his contract until June 2021 last year. He is a leader for us. I am not fazed by the transfer talk at all.”
